This unit is specially
designed as a low cost manual direction finder for Emergency Locator
Transmitters operating on the two Intrenational distess frequencies of
121.5 and 243 Mhz.
It consists of a receiver
with shoulder strap and YAGI type directionnal antennas.
Those antennas exhibit a
high sensitivity in one direction (comparable to TV antennas).
When rotaded by hand, it is
possible to find the direction of maximum signal.
A enhanced 30 segments
"bar graph" display on the receiver is used to monitor maxima
and minima of emergency signals.
Maximum is to the right
while minimum is to the left. The position of the cursor on the bar vary
according to the strength of the ELT signal.
The battery capacity is
such that the receiver can be operated for more than 4 hours (5 to 7 hours
typical).
The equipment is drift and
dust proof. Thanks to the bright display, it can be used during daylight
or also at night.
It can also be used for ELT
location practice, using the 2 test frequencies, (distinct from the
distress frequencies) which can be selected on the front panel.
